Annanagar. For all those who have lived in this place from the early 80's and continue to live here till now, this is a place that has transitioned from "one of the" places to "The Place" and now the overcrowded, overpriced, not so heart of Chennai with the city expanding towards Velachery, OMR, ECR and beyond.
I have lived here since 1981 in AA block 3rd street. I have grown with the locality. Seen the tower park go from a very regular park to a park which has boating, albeit in dirty water, to a park that no one decent enough to visit late in the evening and back to being a regular park. The very residential Shanti Colony giving way to become the commercial busy spot of Annanagar. And many such more transitions.
After having lived here for more than 2 decades, I decided it is time I start blogging about this area that I have grown to love and hate. Love, for it is the place that influenced many of my activities and hate for it has lost its charm over the years by becoming too commercial. It is here that me and my friends used to play cricket in the road outside my house, climb up the roof of neighbors, go to school, college, first part time job, first full time job, first girlfriend, first fight, first smoke.. so many firsts.. getting caught doing wrong stuff, encouraged for all the good stuff, getting out or letting friends hit sixes so they can impress their girlfriends... so many memories... none sour.. everything, a lesson learned.
This is my dedication to this wonderful area called Annanagar.
Do pass this link on to anyone you know who lived or is living in Annanagar.
